1. About these terms
These Terms of Service form an agreement between you and The Better Growth Company Ltd (company no. 12585000), the operator of CareerCaptain. By creating or using a CareerCaptain account, you agree to these terms.
Nothing in these terms affects statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
2. The service
CareerCaptain is a professional-memory and career-intelligence service. It allows users to record career information, relationships and professional activity, add supported source documents, generate timelines and exports, and use AI-assisted features such as Genie, meeting briefs, career narratives and the Weekly Career Brief.
Features may change as the product develops. We will not deliberately make a material contractual change retroactive where doing so would be unfair to consumers.
3. Your account
You are responsible for providing accurate account information, keeping your credentials secure and notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised. You must not access another person's account without authority.
4. Your content and other people's information
You retain responsibility for the information you add to CareerCaptain. You grant us the limited rights needed to host, process, back up, transform and transmit that information solely to operate, secure and improve the service and to provide features you request.
If you record information about another person, you are responsible for having a lawful and fair basis to do so and for avoiding unnecessary sensitive, confidential or unlawful material.
5. AI-assisted features
AI output can be incomplete, incorrect or based on missing context. CareerCaptain is designed to keep AI interpretation separate from the user's underlying source records, but you remain responsible for reviewing outputs before relying on them.
Context summaries, citations and provenance indicators are review aids rather than guarantees of accuracy. An outcome you record after an AI-assisted workflow is treated as your self-report, not as independent verification or proof that CareerCaptain's suggestion caused that outcome.
CareerCaptain's AI features support your judgement; they do not make a solely automated employment, eligibility, credit or other decision about you with legal or similarly significant effect on behalf of CareerCaptain.
Where CareerCaptain extracts, OCRs, chunks or semantically indexes a document, those derived artefacts support search and AI retrieval but do not replace the original source as authoritative evidence. If you choose the option to remove an original after successful processing, you are responsible for retaining any separate copy you may need later.
CareerCaptain does not provide legal, financial, medical, employment-law or other regulated professional advice. Important decisions should be checked against authoritative information or an appropriately qualified adviser where necessary.
6. Acceptable use
You must not use CareerCaptain to:
- break the law or infringe another person's rights;
- upload malicious code or deliberately interfere with the service;
- attempt to bypass authentication, tenant boundaries or security controls;
- scrape, probe or reverse engineer the service except where the law expressly permits it;
- use the service to harass, discriminate against or unlawfully monitor another person.
7. Availability, changes and suspension
We aim to keep CareerCaptain available and reliable, but no online service can be guaranteed to be uninterrupted. We may temporarily restrict access for maintenance, security, legal compliance or to prevent misuse. Where practicable, we will avoid unnecessary disruption.
8. Paid features
CareerCaptain offers Free, Pro and Executive plans. Current prices, included allowances and billing intervals are shown on the Pricing page and again before you confirm a paid subscription in Stripe Checkout. Paid subscriptions renew automatically for the selected monthly or annual period until cancelled.
You can schedule cancellation at the end of the current paid period. Access to paid features continues until that period ends unless Stripe or applicable law requires otherwise. Cancelling a paid subscription does not itself delete your CareerCaptain account or underlying career record, and the core export facility remains available on Free.
Paid plans include stated monthly AI allowances. Reaching an allowance does not trigger an automatic overage charge: the relevant AI feature is limited until the next usage period or until you change plan. We may change future prices or plan contents, but changes affecting an existing paid subscription will be communicated and applied consistently with the contract and applicable consumer law.
Payments are processed by Stripe. CareerCaptain's current checkout does not add a separate mandatory platform or service fee to the subscription price displayed on the Pricing page. If a legally required tax or mandatory charge changes what a consumer must pay, the total-price presentation will be updated before the consumer is asked to commit. Statutory cancellation, refund and other consumer rights remain unaffected; where the law permits those rights to be affected by a request for immediate digital service, the relevant information will be provided at the point of purchase.
9. Intellectual property
CareerCaptain, Fat Genie branding, software, product design and service content are owned by or licensed to The Better Growth Company Ltd except for user content and third-party materials. These terms do not transfer ownership of your underlying career records to us.
10. Liability
We do not exclude or limit liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or rights that apply to consumers by law.
Subject to those protections, CareerCaptain is a decision-support and record-keeping product rather than a guarantee of any career, employment, commercial or financial outcome.
11. Ending use of CareerCaptain
You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary for serious breach, security risk, unlawful use or where the service is withdrawn, subject to applicable consumer and data-protection law.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you may also benefit from mandatory protections and rights to bring proceedings in the part of the United Kingdom or other jurisdiction where you live where applicable law provides them.
